PopArt: Whimsical Characters Of Classic Children's Books | Books
Media Courtesy of Heriberto Hernandez

We've been looking at a lot of TV and movie-inspired art recently (nothing wrong with it... who doesn't love that?), but I thought we'd take a look at those characters we remember from our childhood this week... with classic kids books!

We all have our favourite story or character, so if your favourite isn't here they may well turn up in a future edition...

Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin.

Books Chencoilufi

Chencoilufi brings us Peter Rabbit! The colours and beautiful watercolour work evokes those gorgeous illustrations from when we were young. I love the story that's going on here and Peter's innocent look to the audience...

Books Leah Bourne

Leah Bourne's Princess Aurora is wonderful. The sleek colouring and demure pose is straight from the pages of a fairytale. I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream...

Books faQy

faQy's Peter Pan piece is impossible not to smile at! The leader of the lost boys landing in a swirl of leaves to meet Wendy Darling is reimagined here and I love it! Great use of watercolours too.

Books Kay Pill

Kay Pill has given us our leap into Wonderland with this fashion style illustration! The checker board pattern and the small heart at her eye are just enough to remind us that this is no ordinary girl. Is it your unbirthday, too?

Books Katie

And we are back in Wonderland with this brilliant Cheshire Cat from Katie. The simplicity of this is really striking and his expression is just amazing! Check out that huge grin

.

We're all mad here!

Books Heriberto Hernandez

How could we have classic characters from our childhood without including the mad old world of Dr Seuss?! Heriberto Hernandez's tribute manages to cram in plenty of creatures, so your favourite is bound to be there. The Grinch's expression is so spot on that you can practically hear him hating Christmas.

Books SashDoesDoodles

I've chosen to represent the genius of Roald Dahl with a few character designs from my favourite story - Fantastic Mr Fox!

Hopefully, that's inspired you to dig out your favourite stories again! Keep it Popwrapped and don't forget to check out the talented folk involved. And me, if you want!
