PopWrapped Exclusive: Gwen Sebastian Dishes On Her Album, Blake Shelton And The Voice

Ben Patton Staff Media Lead I recently had the opportunity to talk with one of country music’s rising stars, Gwen Sebastian. Though she’s no stranger to the music industry, as she has been touring full-time for over 10 years, she opens up about how her life has changed since appearing on NBC’s hit show, The Voice. Gwen was on Team Blake during the second season of The Voice, but was eliminated during the Battle Rounds. “I love the show, the concept, the producers…I don’t have anything bad to say. Everything was amazing.” She went on to say that due to the timing of her elimination, she has been able to move forward with her career and is now a member of Blake Shelton’s band.

She also released a self-titled album earlier this year that she says shows fans who she is as an artist. Though she has had other albums, this marked the first release since she appeared on NBC’s hit show. “It came out exactly how I wanted it to,” she says.  Her album features two songs with Miranda Lambert, and on “One Like That,” some special background vocalists: her parents who she grew up making music with. Of her relationship with Blake and Miranda post The Voice, she says, “What a crazy way to meet them. I just want to spread the word on how great they are. They are so giving and their ability to keep it together is amazing. They are really humble and thankful for everything they have.” “You don’t find people in this industry who always have your back and stand up for you, but they have. Blake having me on his album, and performing in his shows and Miranda asking me out on tour…they didn’t have to do that.” Gwen opened for Miranda and Dierks Bentley on their 2013 Locked and Reloaded Tour this past summer, and appeared on Blake’s latest album, Based on A True Story. When answering a fan’s question, ‘Why doesn’t Blake wear a cowboy hat?’ she laughs and responds, “He used to have one and a mullet! You grow and your style changes.” Even over the phone I can tell Gwen is an energetic, go-getter with a sense of humor. Her cover of “What The Fox Says” should also be proof that one of Nashville’s sweetest musicians also knows how to have fun. “One of my nicknames is Lunchbox,” she said when I asked her to tell us something we might not know. “I can eat more than anyone I know. I like to eat more than I like to sing; there, I admitted it. Food is an obsession.” This passionate foody has also been named by Country Weekly as one of country music’s Most Beautiful Women, as well as one of Entertainment Weekly’s Top 10 artists to emerge from The Voice. Speaking of the show that pushed her into the spotlight, Gwen assures me that it is definitely not rigged. “There is no way it is rigged. It’s definitely reality TV and things the judges say could sway voters, but no it’s not rigged.” With the finale of the show airing tonight, she reveals her favorite to take away the crown. “I love Tessanne! She’s definitely one of the best singers that has ever been on the show. I think she’s gonna win; I get chills when I hear her sing.” Check out Gwen’s single “Suitcase” below, and be sure to keep up to date with her on Twitter, Youtube and her website! [youtube=]
