Over the years, fans of all ages have enjoyed diving into the DC comic book series Teen Titans, a superhero team of teenagers dealing with real life struggles in the midst of protecting the world. There have been various incarnations of the comics, multiple animated series, and an upcoming live action cable series that will finally bring the Teen Titans to life! This has prompted me to compile a list of the members I find most important to the Teen Titans, with what I’ll call PopWrapped’s Perfect Teen Titans Roster. Check out the teen heroes we find would make a powerful and amusing balance for either a future team in the comics, or even the potential TNT series below.

Wonder Girl- Cassandra Sandsmark took the Wonder Girl mantle after fan favorite Donna Troy, and quickly began to form a name for herself. Cassandra proved to be a powerful asset to the team with super strength and flight, but had a consistently changing back story to her abilities. Wonder Girl even managed to take the lead over the Titans on various occasions, bringing the confidence and strategy to helm the heroes. While her power and leadership abilities prove useful, her ever blossoming relationship with Superboy sparked a craze amongst fans that shattered hearts with his demise during Infinite Crisis. Cassie held on to adoration for her former love, which led to the two rekindling a relationship after being resurrected years later, and Cassie is still an active member of the Titans.

Bunker- Miguel Barragan is a recent addition to the Titans ensemble, and is one of few characters who was  included in the newest comic series. Bunker forms energy constructs (often of bricks) as a weapon and defense, and manages to bring a light hearted humor to the team. When Bunker was introduced, DC wanted to bring in a gay member whose orientation didn’t need to be hidden and could be further explored like common themes in the Teen Titans series. Bunker may not be too involved in the DC universe yet, but in a short time managed genuine friendships with all the Titans and provided the team with a unique youthful energy that the Teen titans need to function

Beast Boy- When you think of the Teen Titans, one of the first names that should come to mind is Beast Boy. The green animal shape shifter has been a member from the beginning and remains a fan favorite character in every comic, as well as animated films and series. Garfield, or “Gar,” knows how to be a team player, and doesn’t step on others toes. At the same time, he is ready to lead when he has to, and will do anything for his Teen Titans family. Of all the Titans, Gar seems to be the hopeless romantic. His complex relationship with fellow Titans Raven and Terra served as major plots for stories over the course of the Teen Titans comic book run. Fans can all agree without Beast Boy’s charm and emotional charge, the Teen Titans just wouldn’t be complete.

Superboy- Conner Kent lives in the shadow of the world’s greatest hero along with an infamous villain, being the clone of Superman and Lex Luthor. After going on to take the righteous path as a hero, he became Superboy and a quick ally to the Titans. Conner formed tight friendships with Robin, Kid Flash, and formed a deeply rooted love for Wondergirl. As previously mentioned the two were one of the most notorious relationships throughout, and Superboy’s selflessness came to a forefront when he sacrificed his own life to save many against the grisly Superboy Prime. Conner obviously returned later and has become slightly more aggressive with the New 52 launch as opposed to the gentle giant we knew, but that is changing little by little. His powers were of course similar to Superman, with strength, speed, flight, heat vision, all those Kryptonian perks we’ve come to expect while becoming a current Teen Titans staple.

Terra- One of my all time favorite Teen Titans is of course the Titan who treads the line between good and evil with every appearance she makes, none other than the geokinetic wielding powerhouse Terra. Terra was initially one of the members who turned out to be a double agent for Titans archenemies Deathstroke, providing one of the most iconic DC storylines, The Judas Contract. Terra was thought to be a kind sweet girl, whose love for fellow Titan Beast Boy became my favorite before turning out to be a villain. She died bringing down the H.I.V.E. complex in combat with the Titans from her manipulation of the earth, but it was later revealed Deathstroke had driven Terra to near insanity with a serum to bring out her destructive behavior. A clone/possible reborn Terra appeared with a much softer heart and disgust from her previous actions and later died in battle trying to save heroes against Black Adam. With the New 52 Relaunch, Terra was brought back and paired once again with Beast Boy (yay!) but later was assumed dead and given to Deathstoke for who knows what evil deeds. Hopefully we can skip another “Judas Contract” story and give Terra her time as a HERO without being forced down a path of tragedy.

Starfire-Starfire was also an original core member to the Teen Titans, and was an essential member for years before branching off into the current series Red Hood And The Outlaws. Starfire is an alien from the planet Tamaran who escaped a hostile environment only to find more conflict on Earth. Starfire’s energy rays, known as starbolts, flight, combat strength, and unshakable will helped make her one of the most powerful women in the DC universe, rivaling even Wonder Woman. Starfire also had a strong romantic relationship with fellow Titan, Robin (Dick Grayson) that though explored on multiple occasions never panned out successfully like fans had hoped. Starfire’s joy-seeking attitude and flirtatious demeanor always helped generate an interest in finding out what would happen next for the alien hero. Even though they’ve insinuated Starfire has grown from her days as a Titan, Beast boy and Raven are still included, so why not bring her back to show the Titans of today how to get the job done?

Robin- There have been many Robins, and a few who have led the Teen Titans, including the honorable Dick Grayson. However, I thoroughly enjoy reading the stories of Tim Drake. Every version of the Teen Titans has a member of the Bat-family, with Robin usually leading the Teen Titans to victory with his keen detective skills, inquisitive personality, and deadly martial arts abilities. Drake has always been a very closed-off person from losing his family and many close friends and allies, but has never gone off track from his morals and desire to do good. One thing I find extremely important to Drake’s role in the Titans is the fact that he seems to be the one character every other Titan can bond with or relate to, and remains available for whatever emotional needs are required to aid the team. Most importantly, Drake will stop at nothing to protect those close to him, an invaluable asset to the Teen Titans.
