The final season of hit show Dexter hasn’t even aired yet, and already there are talks of a sequel. David Nevens, head of Showtime network has said that potential spin-offs have “been discussed”.

Nevens told TV Line that the franchise which stars Michael C Hall is vital to Showtime and that the show had “put Showtime on the map in original programming and it has remained lively to the very end.”

He was quick to add that Showtime will be happy to let the dust settle on Dexter prior to any spin-off series were produced.  The network boss had of the final season “I really wanted Dexter to have an emotionally satisfying and emotionally wrenching ending,” he said. “As [the final season] develops, you can feel that temperature rising.”

Season 8 of Dexter airs on Showtime from June 30 in the US and will air on Fox in the UK from July 7.
