Before the Power Rangers movie debuted on the big screen, Lionsgate's plans were already underway to make five more films to have a total of six new Power Rangers movies. This project came from the same nostalgia thought process that has been ruling the box office over the last few years and we thought it was a really good movie. The new film was able to hold true to the original 90s show while still standing on its own two feet and making itself stand out as a great action flick. So, you might be asking yourself, what is the main issue causing these sequels to be put on hold?
The answer is about money and the fact that the Power Rangers movie has not made enough to balance out the cost to create it. We have already seen a simliar situation occur with the new Terminator films. All hope might not be lost but for now, it's safe to assume that the reboot did not bring in the necessary revenue to warrant the large plan for sequels originally ordered.
Why is this such a bummer? Well, for starters the movie ended with a huge plug for the next movie. Spoilers ahead so read at your own risk. The film ended with a huge moment forshadowing the addition of the new Green Ranger in the next films. Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) was Green until she turned on her team so now, the Rangers are short one and they need another team member. The film ended back in the detention hall where the teacher was looking for Tommy Oliver and if you watched the original series, you know that that is the Green Ranger. This film also did a great job of showing off a small cameo featuring a few of the original Rangers looking on as the new Rangers defeated the bad girl. We are very sad to hear of the delay and potential loss of these movies but we have hopes that the lights haven't gone out yet. Keep up with us for more news!
