Earlier this year, a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot was announced for the big screen, causing extreme fervor amongst its dedicated fan community. After months of essentially nothing new to talk about concerning the film, however, smiles across the world were turned down a few notches into something a bit more cautious... However, it's time to get to the rampant fanfare again. That's right: the project is definitely happening now, and it's currently slated for the surprisingly specific date of July 22, 2016! Being a tremendous fan of the Power Rangers series--and particularly the Mighty Morphin brand--you couldn't imagine how excited I am that this is happening, even though this love for the brand was first incurred unto me at the age of, well, look for yourself:

The film will be released in theaters on the same day as Guy Ritchie's King Arthur, which is also bound to be a pretty big deal, so I'm glad to announce that it's not being made specifically with the kids in mind either. This won't be your average TV show adaptation: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is being handled by acclaimed action studio Lionsgate Entertainment, who has previously released such immense box office hits as The Hunger Games and The Expendables series! Roberto Orci, who previously has written for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Star Trek, will be helming the project as its executive producer and story developer while X-Men and Thor writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are currently tackling the script. As of now, the story is detailed as "a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world". Well, hopefully with the all-star crew it has, Power Rangers fans across the globe will get the summertime smash that they--and the series--deserve!
