Powers Boothe (Deadwood, Sin City) passed away in his sleep this past Sunday, May 21, 2017. According to his rep the prolific actor died peacefully in his Los Angeles home.

Boothe is most well-known for his role as saloon owner Cy Tolliver in HBO’s Deadwood, but is also fondly remembered for his portrayal of Curly Bill Brocious in Tombstone (1993).

Boothe’s more recent screen time found him in the world of comics, most notably Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For where he played Senator Roark. According to Varity he also had a small role in Marvel’s The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

His friends and costars mourn his passing. Beau Bridges took to Twitter, saying he will “mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe.”

24: Legacy may be fresh in our minds, but the original 24 will always be a classic. Boothe played Vice President Daniels during the show’s run before going on to star as Mayor Lamar Wyatt in Nashville.

Boothe earned an Emmy for his lead performance as Jim Jones in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones.

Boothe was the first member of his family to attend and graduate college. He met his first wife, Pam Cole, at Texas State University. After graduating from college, Boothe joined the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, eventually moving on to television and movies.

Boothe is survived by his second wife, Marlene Tochal-Pennan, and his four children Parisse (34) and Preston (28), from his first marriage; and Reuben Travis (8) and Reginald Paul (7), from his second marriage.

A private service will be held in Texas while the memorial has yet to be determined. The family has asked all donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, which honors the United States’ veterans, first responders, defenders, and those in need.
