Two 12-year-old girls, who repeatedly stabbed a classmate, have blamed the brutal assault on the popular internet horror character “Slenderman.”

One of the Wisconsin girls claimed the fictional supernatural being communicated with her, and the pair reportedly attacked their victim in order to “earn” a visit to the character’s “mansion” in the Wisconsin forest.

The girls discovered the modern urban legend character through the Creepypasta Wiki, a collection of fan-written short stories that often use the mysterious faceless creature as their focus.

Police say Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier had planned to murder a fellow 12-year-old classmate for months, and carried out the attack in the woods during a birthday get-together on May 30th. The victim managed to survive after being stabbed nineteen times and crawled out of the woods, where she was discovered by a bicyclist.

Geyser and Weier were found by law enforcement a few hours later, walking along an interstate.

Weier was carrying a knife with a five-inch blade in her backpack.

The two girls will be charged as adults in the crime, and their victim is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

In response to the bizarre and horrific crime, the Creepypasta Wiki issued a statement clarifying the completely fictional nature of the site’s contents.

“Something like this was bound to happen, considering the size of the Creepypasta community,” the statement reads. “All it takes is one person to do something insane and radical in the name of someone or something. There is a line between fiction and reality, and it is up to you to realize where the line is. We are a literature site, not a crazy satanic cult.”
