Seattle, WA alternative quartet PRETTY AWKWARD aren’t so awkward when it comes to their musical delivery, and on their newest single, “Bad Habit,” which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, it’s clear that they’re definitely not bumbling through the pop song formula, and they have a clear handle on writing upbeat, romance-tinged hits.
The track is a quintessential indie-pop anthem, mapped out with pulsing kick drums, twinkling guitar chords, and a handful of perfect call-and-responses. Lyrically, it describes a picturesque moment wherein a story’s hero sees their love interest for the first time in the haze of a packed party scene – instant love at first sight. In that moment, a sense of urgency in wanting to be with that person arises, drowning out everything else: “Like Bonnie and Clyde, running for our lives / Running for the lives that we want,” vocalist Austin Held expresses in the chorus.
“We couldn’t be more stoked to share our newest track, ‘Bad Habit’ with the world,” Austin says. “We are extremely excited for this track because it’s the first Pretty Awkward song that is a fully in-house production. We wrote ‘Bad Habit’ earlier this year and fell in love with the theme and idea instantly. We had the pleasure of bringing back mixing & mastering extraordinaire Charlie Park to helm the post production process and it turned out better than we imagined. We had such a great time putting this one together and cannot wait to play it live in front of live audiences.”
The band will release their debut LP next year via Another Century/The Orchard/Sony Records. Give “Bad Habit” a listen above and for more information on PRETTY AWKWARD, visit their website, give their page a like on Facebook or follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
