Prince Andrew Becomes First Royal Tweeter

Brittany Goldfield Rodrigues

Staff Writer

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, has recently graced Twitter with his royal presence.

Under the handle @TheDukeOfYork, he has made his mark as the first member of Great Britain’s royal family to use the social-networking platform reports EOnline.

The prince’s first tweet reads  ”Welcome to my Twitter account – AY.” His profile suggests that every tweet signed “AY,” he wrote personally.

Unsurprisingly, the 53-year-old’s busy schedule makes little time for tweeting. His handle has since uploaded four pictures with pictures. We can assume this was done by his staff, because the tweets didn’t bare his signature.

The father of princesses Beatrice and Eugenie has had an active Twitter account for a mere 24 hours, but already boasts 19,223 followers. His profile shows that he himself is following 51 other U.K. based accounts such as Clarence House and The British Monarchy.

If we are lucky, Andrew will turn to Twitter to document his brother prince Charles’ expected first grandchild.

Fingers crossed other expecting parents Prince William and Kate Middleton follow suit. Who wouldn’t love to have the hottest royal couple on twitter? William and Kate, we promise to never judge you, always favourite and retweet your tweets, and harass you to Instagram pictures of the upcoming baby. Wait, did I say that last one out loud?

Just a joke. We would never invade their privacy like that. We would however love to cling on every 140-character statement Prince William could potentially share on the social-networking site.
