Legendary recording artist, Prince, has been reported dead at the age of 57. Ambulances were called to Paisley Park, the musician’s Minnesota home, at 9:43 AM Thursday morning in response to a medical call. Prince had been hospitalized earlier this week when his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois after a performance in Atlanta, and reps confirmed the singer had been battling the flu. Prince’s last performance was Saturday night, at a dance party in Minnesota. He
performed a guitar solo but didn’t sing — telling the crowd, “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.”
Prince, whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson, was the voice of a generation who lit up pop music with albums like Revolution and Purple Rain. His sound and his style remain completely unique and unmatched, selling over 100 million records over the span of his 40 year career. The singer won several Grammys and was nominated a total of 30 times with 14 songs cracking the top 10 on the pop charts. In 1985, Prince won an Oscar for his music in Purple Rain. The artist acted as a producer and mentor to many musicians including Sheena Easton and Apollonia.
