The first remix of Lady Gaga’s “Applause” is here. The Canadian group Purity Ring is behind the newest creation. It will be released on Applause Remix EP on October 1. Corin Riddick, one half of  Purity Ring, explained in an interview the duo put the song together.
“The first thing I did was delete everything but the vocals. With a remix I don’t think any of the original instrumental should be used,” Riddick explained to Dazed Digital in the interview. He found the new song challenging, but was up to putting their spin on it. After listening to the vocals of the track, Riddick went on to explain that he rebuilt the bassline and chords totally different from the original. The song took just two weeks to craft overall.
Like many other Gaga fans, Riddick had to wait for the song to be released before getting his hands on it. Luckily, the song dropped early, and Purity Ring went right to work on their remix. When asked if he thinks Gaga personally requested their duo to create a remix, he responded positively.
The group has already been featured in one of Gaga’s Spotify playlists. Riddick felt assured Gaga had hand-selected them. “I would think that someone of her stature controls every detail of her artistic output,” he responded. “I don’t see why you would have anyone remixing you that you don’t personally approve.”
Currently, Purity Ring is preparing for their new album. Riddick stated that they have been working on a handful of other projects (including producing for artists such as Evian Christ) which has caused production of album to move along slowly.
