Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been MIA since her recent jail move. Tolokonnikova’s husband Pyotr Verzilov spoke out to a US website that he had not heard from his wife or heard any news of her current location. He claims that is bring kept a secret from him.
Nadezhda and fellow protestor Maria Alyokhina were arrested for hooliganism back in March 2012 following a protest performance in one of Moscow’s Orthodox cathedrals and are both serving two years for their crimes. In September she began a hunger strike due to poor prison conditions in the Mordovia penal colony where she was being held.
Verzilov last knew of his wife location when she was placed on a train to be transported to a new prison on October 21st. She was then seen on October 24th by a fellow passenger but has not been heard from since. Speaking with Buzzfeed Verzilov believes “They want to cut her off from the outside world.”
The Federal Penitentiary Service has spoken in regards to Verzilov’s claims and said that she is indeed being moved to a new prison and that in accordance with regulations her family would be contacted within 10 days of her arrival. The Associated Press reached out to officials for a comment but they could not be reached.
