Are you a thirsty being from a race of jaggedly browed warriors? Is the taste of that Vulcan Ale feeling ale-ien, but blood and tears are out of stock in your space-fridge? Fear not, for Star Trek has released their newest alcoholic beverage derived from the Klingon culture: Warnog.

Pulled from scenes in both The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine TV series, Warnog is sure to evoke Trekkie delight. Although we haven’t gotten the recipe for bloodwine perfect yet (blood + wine?), Earth-bound Klingon and their ilk looking for a beer of choice can now enjoy the smooth flavor of Warnog. Interestingly enough, the tastes of unabashed victory apparently have notes of clove, banana, and caramel.

In the treacherous depths of Canada, The Federation of Beer has forged a relationship with the Star Trek franchise. This is their second themed beer, following the Vulcan Ale of yore. Warnog is to be brewed at the Tin Man Brewing Company in Indiana, demonstrating what two forces of international fandom can produce. The beer is described as a “Roggen Dunkel” style beer, which “incorporates rye malt into a modern Dunkelweizen grain bill, creating a flavor profile that is both familiar and unique.”

In their official statement, the Federation goes on to explain, “Warnog’s aroma is predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt. The flavor draws heavily from the blending of the rye malt and traditional clove character, creating a very rich and unique flavor. The inclusion of wheat and caramel malts help to round out the mouthfeel of this beer, making this Dunkelweizen hearty enough to be called a Klingon Warnog.”

Though some would argue that Klingons might prefer a more hostile flavor profile than banana and caramel, we should nevertheless raise a glass of Warnog to the creative minds and say, “Ha’ bIS’ub!” **Klingon for “Bottoms up!” according to the Bing translator
