It's one of the most beloved film series of all time, so it is no surprise that Toy Story 4
would attract some big names, including people who want to give writing one of the films a shot. Joss Whedon, mega-producer and king of quirky science fiction, started out writing none other than the original Toy Story
in 1995. Now two familiar faces from in front of the camera are putting their thinking caps on and writing the fourth installment in the series
Rashida Jones, better known as Ann Perkins on NBC's Parks and Recreation
, and her writing partner Will McCormack, are set to write Toy Story 4
. The pair have collaborated on several projects, most notably the quirky comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever
. The pair are writing the script based on an idea by the original brains behind Toy Story
, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Doctor and Lee Unkrich. These men are the geniuses behind Pixar, and unsurprisingly, all four have won Academy Awards for their contributions to animation.
Even more exciting is that John Lasseter, widely considered the master of Pixar and animated movies in general, will be returning as director. Lasseter directed Toy Story
and Toy Story 2
, but gave the directorial duties for the third film to Lee Unkrich. For Lasseter to return to his old stomping ground as the man in charge clearly shows that Toy Story 4
will be special and emotionally resonant.
Toy Story 4
will be released on June 16th, 2017. We can't wait.
