Australian comedienne and actress Rebel Wilson is well known for her hysterical antics onscreen -- like that time she showed us how to Mermaid Dance or when showed off her woohoo while doing some aerial gymnastics for the President. Although her schedule has been filled with films, she is still finding time to branch out and explore new projects. One of those projects is the task of revolutionizing the plus-size fashion industry, and we're expecting her to crush it.
Wilson, who wears a size 16 or 18 (depending on the day), has expressed a distaste with the current stylings on the market. "What I found with a lot of plus-size clothing was that it didn't seem cool or on trend. It was kind of like what your auntie would wear to a wedding. So it was a mission to find clothes that fit and are well-made," Wilson explained in an interview with People Magazine. She described the market as massively underserved, and it looks like she has found a solution to the issues in the industry.
Earlier this month, Rebel Wilson announced a partnership with the popular plus-size brand Torrid to create her own line. The collection includes 31 pieces in sizes ranging from 12 to 28, and it is expected to debut in stores on November 1. True to Wilson's eclectic yet bold persona, the line showcases more casual separates as well several dressier options for your next dinner party or red carpet event!
"I have a complex personality. People see me in movies and think that I'm like Fat Amy, but I'm not," Rebel Wilson said to explain the variety in her collection. "I love rap music and hip hop, so I definitely have this urban, street side." Rebel also expressed an affinity of some preppier elements, which she contrasts with an undying respect for sweats! Gotta live that comfortable lifestyle!
The Pitch Perfect starlet debuted one of the line's looks, a fashionable red and black lace peplumed frock, at the line's launch party. With her blond tresses teased atop her head, Rebel Wilson posed alongside a bevy of models and mannequins dressed in her line. One model posed alongside Wilson in a blouse emblazoned with graphic stars and a black chevron skirt, while another stunned in a black wrap dress. "Welcome to the Rebelution" a neon sign proudly proclaimed at the event, and we have to say that she has kicked things off with a bang!
Although she claims that her sense of style has vastly improved since her early days dressing for dog shows, Rebel Wilson isn't quite ready to claim the title of style icon just yet. "I just was always the kind of person who cared what was on the inside. But then I realized that if girls can see me standing next to really skinny actresses holding my own and being really confident about how I look, then that's a good message to send."
