After news of the July 1 murder of Cecil, Zimbabwe's most famous lion angered individuals and animal conservationists around the world earlier this week, it was reported by various news organisations this weekend that his brother, Jericho, had been killed by poachers.
However, it has since been confirmed that Jericho, uncle to Cecil's many young cubs, is alive and well and continuing to roam the park habitat he and other lions call home.
Brent Stapelkamp, an Oxford University researcher who has been tracking Jericho posted this image to his Twitter early this morning:
The news that Jericho hasn't been killed is of some comfort to the millions of people who were shocked, horrified and upset by the murder of Cecil, a protected animal who was gunned down by American Walter Palmer in Hwange National Park.
The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force confirmed Cecil's death, posting on their Facebook page.
