Richard Gere and his wife Carey Lowell are reportedly headed for divorce after 11 years of marriage according to People magazine
The couple have been reportedly been living apart for some time, the New York Post
reporting that, “Gere, 64, staying at their property in Bedford, N.Y., and Lowell, 52, at their historic mansion in North Haven, N.Y.” The newspaper also added, “They have a place in Bedford, and he likes it because it’s quiet and he likes the solitude. She likes being in North Haven in the limelight. They live next door to Jimmy Buffett and his family, and they’re good friends.”
Gere and Lowell have been married since 2002 after dating for around seven years and have a 13-year-old son named Homer James Jigme Gere.
Gere opened up about his relationship with Lowell to the Daily Mail
, shortly after getting married. The actor said,” She’s changed my life. And marriage does have meaning if you do it from the heart. It is a milestone for us both.” He added,” We are adults who have been through marriage before and do not take it lightly. I felt married from the moment I met her, to tell the truth. But to take that extra step is the biggest stride imaginable. I have no problems with this one at all.”

star was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford while Lowell has two previous marriages, including one to actor-director Griffin Dunne, with whom she has a 23-year-old daughter named Hannah.
