It has been 30 years since Blade Runner premiered, but fans might be in for a treat, because Harrison Ford is in discussion with Ridley Scott about a possible sequel. Ford told IGN that he and Scott have been “chatting about” a possible sequel to the sci-fi film, according to Digital Spy.
Michael Green, writer for Green Lantern, is rumored to be working on the Blade Runner 2 script. Green is following the first draft of the script from the original film’s writer, Hampton Fancher. While some people might think Ford wants to make the sequel for nostalgic reasons, he quickly dispels that as a myth, “I remember it with complication, but I’m not there to generate nostalgic moments, I’m there to do a job of work.”
Ford went on to discuss not only his admiration for Ridley wanting to do a sequel, but also Ridley’s ambition, “I quite understand that everybody has an ambition when they come and do a film, and everyone’s ambition may not be focused on the same thing. I truly admire Ridley as a man and as a director, and I would be very happy to engage with him again in the further telling of this story.”
There may be some hesitation to make the sequel simply because the first movie underwhelmed in theatre, and had a tumultuous production. However, after the director’s cut was released, fans flocked to see the movie, making it a classic. Blade Runner was roughly based around the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? While we wait to see if there will be a Blade Runner 2, we can catch Harrison Ford in his latest movie, Ender’s Game, debuting on October 25.
