Music fans rejoice! This month’s new music releases have been bountiful!  Rod Stewart, The Clash, Kiss, and Metallica are just 4 bands who distributed their music in September 2013 and now Robbie Williams is another musician releasing new songs this month.
His new piece, ‘Shine My Shoes’, was revealed via a lyric video. It is just one song on his new studio album, Swings Both Ways, which will be released November 18. Williams co-wrote the song with Guy Chambers and his biographer Chris Heath. To be clear, this will not be the single of the CD; ‘Go Gentle’ will be one of the songs to hold that honor.
To complete the album, Robbie Williams will be joined by a stellar cast of musicians. Some of the artists featured will be Lily Allen, Michael Buble, and Rusfus Wainwright. What a brilliant group to harmonize with Williams!
The video reminds me of A Charlie Brown Christmas. There is a 1960’s modern flare to the design – a simple black background with pops of color that flicker in and out. The jazzy rhythm with smooth drumbeats is evocative of the dancing the children did during rehearsals. ‘Shine My Shoes’ also has a big band sound. It’s rich and filling, much like Artie Shaw or Ella Fitzgerald.
‘Shine My Shoes’ is about a man (let’s call him Rob for the sake of this article) who is proud of himself and who he’s become. Rob has worked hard to get there, but he finds ‘it’s easy to be me’; the guy can’t be anyone else, but himself. Furthermore, he knows there are people who hate him and are angry with him, but Rob just finds those people to be ugly souls. He almost things they are wasting their time being disgruntled.
There is a moral to the song.  Be true to yourself. Let the haters hate, but don’t waste your time thinking about these ugly people; it’s not worth it.

If you want to see him in concert, mark your calendars for November 12th! He’ll be performing at will perform at Children in Need Rocks charity concert. He’s one of the first acts announced in fact.
