Robert Kirkman Talks 'The Walking Dead' Spinoff Series | Walking Dead

Everyone has been wondering just what exactly to expect from the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff series, and comic creator Robert Kirkman recently opened up about the forthcoming show and its potential time line. Though previously assumed to be strictly a prequel to the original one, Kirkman explains that we will in fact see more of the zombie plague before Rick awoke in the hospital (from the pilot episode). In a statement at the SXSW he said:
"The timeline is taking place a little bit earlier than the original show. Rick Grimes woke up from a coma and was like, 'Oh, man, zombies, weird!' We're going to possibly see that unfold a little more in the other show. "
Kirkman does elaborate that the series will begin to pick-up and could eventually end up crossing paths with the timeline of the main The Walking Dead series, saying:
"There could be like a thing where, 'Oh, they encountered a zombie in season four in The Walking Dead that could do this and now we know why that was'. So we're going to be doing things like that are going to be pretty cool, but for the most part [the two shows] should be able to stand alone."
The Walking Dead spinoff is currently untitled, but will center on a family in the Los Angeles area, and has already been picked up for a second season to follow up the 6-episode first one. I personally am interested to see what an original story in the same universe could introduce to viewers, especially in a busy city like LA! Can you imagine zombie versions of The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills? I smell a ratings hit in the making...
