Acting Legend Robert Vaughn Passes Away At Age 83

In sad news, legend of both the silver screen and the television screen Robert Vaughn has passed away at the age of 83 after battling cancer.

Television legend and movie star, Robert Vaughn has passed away on November 11 in Ridgefield, Connecticut. His death came after a brief battle with Leukemia. He was 83 years old. Vaughn’s death was confirmed by members of his team.

“Mr. Vaughn passed away with his family around him,” his manager Matthew Sullivan told Deadline.

Mr. Vaughn had a career that stretched from his television debut in 195, up to his last film, Goldstar, which was shown in theaters just this year.

Despite having a long career in cinema, Mr. Vaughn is much more acclaimed for his work in both British and American television. His most notable his role was as the suave American spy Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He starred opposite of NCIS’ David McCallum — who played Vaughn’s Soviet partner, Ilya Kuryakin.

“I just heard the news, and I’m utterly devastated. Robert and I worked together for many years and losing him is like losing a part of me. My deepest sympathies go out to Linda and the Vaughn family.” McCallum said in a statement.

Other major roles on the small screen are that of wealthy detective Harry Rule in the British TV series, Protectors, and as General Hunt Stockwell in the A-Team.

Most recently, he appeared in Hustle and in the world’s longest running television soap opera in production, Coronation Street.

In film, he is known for his work on The Magnificent Seven, wherein he plays Lee, the skittish veteran suffering from a crisis of confidence. He would essentially reprise this role in a science fiction version, Battle Beyond The Stars, which came out in 1980. From 1998-2000 he also appeared in a syndicated TV series based on The Magnificent Seven — this time playing a different character, Judge Oren Travis.

He also appeared in Bullitt with Steve McQueen and played the villain, Ross Webster, in Superman III.

Vaughn is survived by his wife Linda Staab, whom he met on the set of Protectors. They have two children together: son Cassidy and daughter Caitlin.
