After weeks of rumors and speculations that he was the favorite to take the job, reports have now come in that Mexican-American director Roberto Orci has been hired to direct Star Trek 3, this according to a source cited by Variety.
Orci who also helped write the first two Star Trek films in the rebooted franchise, is currently working on the story with Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, details of the plot is still unknown. Orci is set to replace director J.J. Abrams, who has been tapped to direct the next Star Wars trilogy.
Orci has been working on Hollywood for a long time, aside from Star Trek, his producing and writing credits would include, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers, and Cowboys & Aliens. This will be the first film in which he will be the director. No official word from Paramount has yet been released.
So what do you think? Is a neophyte director the right man to continue on the Star Trek Franchise, or should they have gone with someone with more experience?
