Robots On Film? Hugh Jackman Reveals News Of Role In Upcoming Chappie
Claudia Walrad Staff Writer Not exactly Short Circuit, but news of another robot in cinema has been revealed and linked to a leading Hollywood star. Audiences may not be hearing him belt out any musical theatre tunes in Chappie, but Hugh Jackman fans are sure to eagerly anticipate the actor's upcoming turn in Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi action feature, now that it has officially been confirmed. The Aussie actor leaked the news while in Switzerland attending the Zurich Film Festival. Screen Daily quoted the actor that he will be appearing in the Elysium follow-up, which will take place in Johannesburg. The title character of Chappie is actually a robot member of the Johannesburg Police Force, who is kidnapped by a sinister gang. While Chappie is set for a March 27, 2015 release date, some details have begun to emerge surrounding the production. Other talents linked to the picture include Sharlto Copley (The A-Team) as the voice of Chappie, Jose Pablo Cantillo (The Walking Dead), as well as additional rumors of Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). No word out yet whether or not Jackman will play a character on the criminal or heroic side of the plot, but the actor did reveal at a presser that he will arrive in Johannesburg at the beginning of next year to begin filming. The Wolverine star was in Zurich to screen his current release Prisoners as well as accept the Golden Icon Lifetime Achievement Honor. While Jackman seemed happy to announce his upcoming role in Chappie, he also indicated a possible starring role as P.T. Barnum in the rumored new musical, The Greatest Showman On Earth. He revealed to press that the project has taken on "new momentum," indicating definite plans. Additionally, Jackman will decide in the next month or so if he will portray Harry Houdini in the possible Broadway project, suggesting the actor is happy to keep a full and diverse schedule. Whether starring in a Broadway show or taking a bold turn in an international action flick, the honored actor seems set to please fans of all genres for a long time to come. And who knows? Chappie may be set for major box office success already. Jackman already set the stage for modern movie robots in Real Steel.... something tells me he could do it again with whatever he chooses as his next project. http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
