The View has certainly seen its share of drama during its nearly twenty-year run.
One specific dramatic event occurred in 2007, when co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Elizabeth Hasselbeck had a heated argument on the show over the war in Iraq. Her contract was almost over, but O’Donnell decided to leave early.
“I learned that for me, if I can’t be the boss of a show, I shouldn’t be on the show,” the 51-year-old admitted in a Nightline interview in 2011. ABC News reports that O’Donnell will be returning to the show next month, this time as a guest.
“I have great affection for Rosie and we have remained in contact throughout the years. I am happy to welcome her back to the program. She is always a lively and engaging guest and a part of the show’s successful history,” Barbara Walters, creator of the show, said of her former co-host.
There won’t be any awkward encounters between O’Donnell and Hasselbeck this time around, because Hasselbeck left The View last year. As we previously reported, Walters announced in 2013 that she plans to retire this summer after 37 years with ABC.
She’ll continue to anchor for ABC News and appear on The View until December, after which she’ll remain an executive producer for the talk show.
Rosie O’Donnell will appear on The View on February 7.
