Lionsgate has released the trailer of Run, their upcoming psychological horror flick starring Sarah Paulson and newcomer Kiera Allen. Directed by Searching (2018) fame, Indian-American director Aneesh Chaganty, Run explores a caring mother, Diane, who looks after her daughter Chloe, bound to a wheelchair since birth. It takes a horrific turn when Chloe begins to unravel her mother’s past and her dark secrets she has been keeping from her.
The first trailer of the film is pretty intense and will surely hook you up to the potential plot. From what we can tell from the trailer is that Sarah Paulson’s Diane is a psychologically imbalanced and overbearing mother, whose truth starts to haunt her daughter as she starts noticing some strange things about her mother. But, director Aneesh Chaganty’s debut film Searching also gave some interesting details from the trailer, only to surprise us during the climax of the film.
The trailer begins with looking at her recently born daughter whom she had apparently given birth to prematurely, which results in her legs being dysfunctional. We see the daughter, Chloe being a university student and an expert in physics and possibly mechanics, given her skills with using a soldering rod and her garage full of mechanical tools. It’s until she discovers that her mother had her name changed in the past to Diane, she starts unraveling the truth about her. What follows is a gritty and horrifying tale of a daughter’s struggle to save herself from her own mom.
The hints of Aneesh Chaganty’s terrific direction are visible throughout the trailer. From strobing shots and wicked background score to powerful delivery by both Paulson and Kiera, everything about the trailer is intriguing. Looks like Aneesh has tried his best to use signs and symbols rather than dialogues to present his film’s first glimpse.
Paulson is not new to horror films as she has been a part of the horror-thriller anthology series American Horror Story for a long time. What will be the cynosure of the film is Kiera Allen. Kiera herself uses a wheelchair in real life too. The mother-daughter duo looks mesmerizing in the first look and has already raised the bar for the film. It would be too early to decode the entire plot from the first look. While the first half of the trailer gives you a little something to get your brains at work, the next half takes you down the perplexing lane, leaving very little to fully understand by the end.
