11th episode of RWBY RECP! Oh...and...RWBY too, I guess.
Jaune is battling against Cardin Winchester, leader of Team CRDL (Cardinal). Cardin is thrashing him, and Jaune, as one probably suspected from earlier episodes, isn't the greatest fighter. He rushes into battle, is headstrong, and doesn't think things through. This makes it easy for Cardin to keep besting him, and just before he's about to deliver the killing blow, Glynda Goodwitch announces, "That's enough" and the lights come on and it's revealed they were battling in front of the class in a simulated combat scenarios.
Glynda then instructs the class on where Jaune went wrong, tells them that Jaune's aura fell into the red and in a tournament-style battle, this would signal he was unfit for battle and thus the match officials could call it such. She then tells Jaune it's been months now and to refer to his scroll during combat so he can gauge where his aura is and subsequently determine when to move from attacking to a more defensive strategy.
Before dismissing the class, Glynda sets up the introduction of a huge plot point we'll revisit in Volume 3 (which is coming out two weeks from today, on October 24th!): the Vytal Festival Tournament. It's a tournament and festival where students and people from all over the four kingdoms of Mistral, Vacuo, Atlas and Vale go to the host kingdom and interacts with the students and culture and combat in a tournament for victory. She urges them to prepare themselves for combat should they choose to enter the tournament, because they will be representing Vale.
At lunch, Teams RWBY and JNPR are chatting about Nora's dream that Ren keeps downplaying, and Jaune is out of it. Pyrrha and Ruby ask how he is, and they see Cardin and his team bullying another character, a rabbit faunus named Velvet. Pyrrha points out that Cardin has been bullying Jaune since the first week of school. Jaune denies this, asking them for any time Cardin has "bullied him.
Cue montage of Cardin assaulting Jaune in a hallway, Cardin pressing Jaune's collapseable shield/scabbard to expand while Jaune entered a room, keeping him stuck in the doorway, and the time Glynda was introducing new students to their assigned rocket-propelled lockers they could store their stuff in and summon to their location should they ever need it, only for Cardin to push Jaune in one and close it before sending him flying off.
Jaune waves it off, saying Cardin's a douche not only to him, but to everyone. Velvet is crying out in pain as Cardin yanks on her rabbit ears. He lets go and she leaves. Nora in all her exuberant glory offers to help the others break Cardin's legs (so he'll stop messing with Jaune). Pyrrha makes it clear that she has a distaste for Cardin and despises people like him, but didn't do anything to help Velvet. Neither did anyone else. Blake says he's not the only one, and Yang muses on how hard it must be to be a faunus.
As Jaune leaves the room, sighing, Cardin can be seen leering at him. Oh boy.

Ain’t that grand? I’m a huge fan of Rooster Teeth, even if I’m relatively new. I got into it for RWBY earlier this year (sadly, after the great and true soul of Monty Oum, creator of RWBY and crew member of Red vs Blue for a few seasons and beloved Rooster Teeth employee), and then retroactively watched all of Red vs Blue and wish I grew up with it (because 10+ years of Texas? Yes please. My fave. Please give me more Texas (I never thought I’d say that in any context).), and then watched X-Ray and Vav recently.
Rooster Teeth is truly amazing, perhaps my favourite company in the world (barring PopWrapped, of course), and I think they deserve all the support and fans in the world. Make sure to buy the first two Volumes of RWBY at the Rooster Teeth store.
Anyways, now that I’m done gushing over RT (at least for this article), what did you think of “Jaundice” And more importantly, this deliciously idiosyncratic RECP?
Tune in next time for another episode of RWBY RECP!
