PW: It's been a few years since you last released music, what have you been up to?
Ryan Cabrera: I’ve been writing the record and recording in between touring. I love being on the road, so trying to balance my passion for performing live and making the right record with the right team definitely takes time. I wasn't going to put anything out until I felt it was ready, and was the best record that I could make.
PW: Following up to that, a fan wanted me to ask, do you still use hair glue? If not, how do you get your hair to be so awesome?
RC: Hahahahaha I use dirt!! And my bed!!
PW: On a more serious note, let's talk about your new EP. Can you describe the sound of it? Did anything or anyone in particular influence the sound?
RC: The sound is really versatile. Every song kind of takes on its own sound, and I wanted it to take you on a musical journey, per se. We definitely mixed in a lot of different instruments that I haven't used before, but I wanted to stick with the fun, upbeat acoustic sound.
PW: Did you write all of the songs on the new EP? What inspires you when you are writing?
RC: I did! There were a lot of collaborations from some amazing friends and producers along the way! Life inspires me. Experience and learning inspires me. Love inspires me. People inspire me.
PW: What can fans expect from you next?
RC: I’m about to go on a US tour with one of my buddies, Secondhand Serenade. I plan on being on the road promoting the new music for a long, long time.
PW: What are you looking forward to most about touring? Do you have any favorite cities to visit?
RC: I’m definitely looking forward to being onstage with the amazing musicians in my band and bringing these new songs to life!! Yeah, I love San Francisco with a passion! I love Chicago, New York City, Orlando and so many others. I’m also excited for all the cities that I haven’t visited!
PW: What can fans expect to hear in your set list? Any old favorites like "On The Way Down" or "Photo"?
RC:Oh, we are definitely going to be whipping out the old school songs as well! I still love performing them!
PW: You'll be doing meet and greets during this tour, what's the weirdest fan experience you've had? Have you been given any abnormal gifts?
RC:Hahah! One time, a fan camped out overnight under a table in a dressing room and popped out when we arrived! We let her stay and hang for a bit. That dedication, though! I always find it funny when people give me underwear.
PW: On the flip side, what's the best thing you've ever received from a fan?
RC:I love the old collage stuff fans make.
PW: What's the best advice you've received?
RC: Make sure you don't let the idea of success effect you as an artist. Only you can decide the value of success.
PW: Would you like to talk about or add anything else?
RC:Thank you for taking the time to chat! I’m looking forward to releasing my new EP, Wake Up Beautiful, on 3/3, and can't wait to see everyone on the road!! ;-)
