Ryan Phillippe is set to take on the role of a Marine sniper in a new television series based on Mark Wahlberg's 2007 film Shooter.

According to EW, the series has been green-lit by USA, and Ryan Phillippe will take on the role of Bob Lee Swagger, an “off-the-grid former Marine sniper who is coaxed into action to thwart the killing of the President."

Wahlberg, who originally played Bob Lee, has nothing but high praises for Ryan Phillippe: “I love the character of Bob Lee Swagger and we are thrilled to have Ryan on board for the show”, he said on a statement. Wahlberg will also be involved with the TV series , but not on an acting role, as he will be one of the producers.

Meanwhile, Stephen Levinson will serve as Executive Producer, while John Hlavin will write the screenplay for the pilot, along with being concurrent Executive Producer. Simon Cellan Jones will direct the pilot.

Shooter was based on the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. The novel will also form an important basis of the upcoming Television series.
