Ryan Reynolds Addresses The Fantastic Four Reboot And Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds has addressed the failure of the Fantastic Four reboot film and gives us a few new details about his upcoming Deadpool film.

It’s a fact that Ryan Reynolds is a gorgeous human-being. No, seriously he truly is and his feature interview with GQ Magazine solidifies Reynolds as my spirit animal.

During the interview, Reynold’s expresses deep concern for the cast of The Fantastic Four as he delves into how the negative reception of the film could impact the careers of Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller. Although Reynolds conveys concern for Miles Teller, he seems particularly worried about Michael B. Jordan as he states, “It’s important that Michael B. Jordan continues to go on and do amazing things,” Reynolds further elaborates, “I know it’s not easy for a black actor. It’s not easy for a female actor. It’s not easy for a lot of people that are… That entire cast is amazingly talented. And I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. I mean, I know what that feels like. It doesn’t feel good. And it also is difficult, because you don’t feel like you can control that outcome. You know, as much as you want to. You can’t really.”

Despite Fantastic Four’s disappointing box office, Reynolds remains confident that Deadpool is coming out at the right time and will target fans that have seen all sides of the superhero genre (both good and bad). Reynolds goes on to compare the superhero genre to that of the horror and comedy genre by saying, “There are good horror movies and bad horror movies. There are good comedies and bad comedies. Think of it like that. Think of it less about just superheroes. I do believe that they explore similar archetypes a lot, so I think that notion can be somewhat fatiguing, maybe. I think one of the reasons that Deadpool has gained a lot of momentum isn’t just that it’s funny or isn’t just that it’s rated R. The meta aspect is very important. So I think Deadpool’s coming along at the right time, because it’s also speaking to that generation and that group of people that have seen them all, seen all these comic-book films and enjoyed them all to varying degrees of success. But I think it’s speaking to them as though the guy in that red suit is one of them, to some degree.”

Here’s one of the many reasons why I respect Ryan Reynolds; his comments in regards to the cast of Fantastic Four, Michael B. Jordan in particular, ring true. Michael B. Jordan is immensely talented and it is important that he goes on to do amazing films. In regard to Deadpool, I have no doubt in my mind that the film will be successful. Ryan Reynold + Deadpool + an amazing script: that’s a combination that can’t possibly go wrong *knocks on wood and crosses fingers while praying profusely.*
