A bomb threat was called in today at Sandy Hook Elementary School, causing the school to be evacuated.

The threat was called in around 9:30am and was picked up by a secretary. Students were immediately evacuated to a nearby school and a message sent out to parents. Students were not told about the threat.

Parents immediately came and picked up the children, and school was canceled for the day. A public meeting was held later on Wednesday with Superintendent Joseph Erardi. 

“The meeting this evening was an opportunity for us to enhance our protocol and to share with out parents that the building is safe and students will learn and teachers will teach,” Erardi said during the meeting.

The school was the site of the tragic shooting in 2012 where 26 students and staff were killed by Adam Lanza. The elementary school was relocated to the former Chalk Hill Middle School in nearby Monroe. 

Donna Soto, the mother of Victoria Soto, a teacher who was killed in the shooting, posted on Facebook that the act was “reprehensible.”

“We are saddened to know that the students and faculty of Sandy Hook have to relive this nightmare again. These children and teachers have been through enough and for you to take a selfish action, to make a phone call for your enjoyment is reprehensible.”

The principal of Sandy Hook has said school will continue as normal on Thursday and will be nothing but safe.
