Katy Perry's self-empowerment anthem "Roar" made headlines in 2013 for its significant similarities to another equally charming and fist-pumping song: "Brave" by Sara Bareillies. When Perry dropped her single, as the lead-in to her third studio album "Prism," fans and critics alike noted that portions of the song seemed to be lifted directly, if not note-for-note, from Bareilles single, off her "The Blessed Unrest" set. As a result, Bareilles' track has seen major sales bumps well into the new year. The singer-songwriter made an appearance on this week's CBS Sunday Morning, and she addressed the controversy. "I mean I can't say that I think that they don't sound similar," Bareilles told reporter Charles Osgood. "I've known Katy a really long time and we're friends." It's "only really good for my song. So, thank you, Katy Perry for that," she smiled. She continued, noting the vast impact that song has had for her career, "I just felt like I was watching the song take flight and take on a life of its own," Bareilles told Ben Tracy. "And it was becoming something bigger than it had even intended to be. And that's always, oh my gosh, what amazing hope for something you create." As 2014 is well underway, Bareilles recently landed a major nomination for the Grammy Awards for Album of the Year with "The Blessed Unrest." The singer also finds herself in Best Pop Vocal Performance for "Brave," even though the track peaked at No. 26 on Billboard's Hot 100. "I never in a billion million years thought I'd be nominated for Album of the Year. I'm litterally shaking. Best birthday ever. Woah," Bareilles had tweeted last month following the nominations announcement. Check out Sara's video for her track "Brave" below: [youtube=]
