On Monday (July 13), Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker officially announced he is running for the presidency in 2016.

Walker is famous for his anti-union and anti-worker policies, which are a point of pride for him. He reminded voters of just how far he has gone for Wisconsin, and how far he will go for America, saying “we took on the unions, and we won.” He’s also known for his anti-Obamacare stance and for de-funding Planned Parenthood while also enacting pro-life legislation. He’s promised to put similar reforms in place across America if elected.

Walker’s announcement came only a day after he signed the state budget, which eliminated a worker’s right to have “at least 24 consecutive hours of rest for every seven-day stretch” of work. The budget, which was opposed by members of his own party, is just one of the many anti-union measures Walker has imposed.

While there are protests to his policies, Walker clearly isn’t taking them seriously. Earlier this year, he found himself in hot water for flippantly comparing the peaceful protestors to the actions of ISIS terrorists.

The AFL-CIO is the umbrella organization for 56 unions across the U.S. and represents 12.5 million workers. Along with ensuring workers receive fair treatment on the job, they advocate for working people “in the White House, on Capitol Hill, in state capitals across the country, and in corporate boardrooms.” 

Walker’s policies have affected many members of the AFL-CIO, and President Richard Trumka issued a response to Walker’s announcement that same day. The brief statement sums up Walker and his policies perfectly:

Scott Walker is a national disgrace.
