It’s been a wild ride for Sean Avery! Famously controversial on the ice and in politics, rumors seem to trail his every move. The latest to join the mill is that the New York Rangers Forward turned Vogue intern has just become engaged to Bravo’s Andy Cohen.
What a lovely couple they would make too. If not a tad random.
We’re taking this rumour with a pinch of salt for now… Gossip site, The Fame Driven, reported the alleged marriage proposal on Tuesday.
Andy Cohen became a source of inspiration for many as the first openly gay host of an American late-night talk show, so whenever he does decide to get married no doubt it will make the headlines.
In New York, Avery was also the first NHL player to come out in support of marriage equality, initiating a chain of discussions on the topic within the sports industry. Campaigns such as “You Can Play” have continued to spread his message, and made it easier for gay athletes to compete in the notoriously homophobic sporting industry.
He even became a part of Athlete Ally, “a group of straight athletes devoted to eradicating homophobia in sports”, Avery himself having been on the receiving end of homophobic remarks during highly publicized games. Wayne Simmonds from the Flyers famously targeted Avery with gay slurs during one game, calling him a “fucking faggot.”
The rumoured husbands-to-be have appeared on Bravo together for years, joking that their “bromance” began in 2011. The duo seemed to be having fun with the rumors over social media posting a series of comments and photos that toyed with the possibility of their speculated engagement. Avery also posted a since-deleted Instagram of The Fame Driven’s page that had spawned the idea of the secret relationship.
So are they about to set a date or their wedding? It’s hard to say, but it seems like they’re just having fun with more silly gossip about their “bromance.”
But if they ever do admit to being a couple, we’ll be the first to say congrats!
