Sean Saves The World But Couldn’t Save His Show From Bad Ratings

It’s a sad day in comedy. After only one season, Sean Saves the World has been officially canceled. It starred Will & Grace alum Sean Hayes in the title role, along with Linda Lavin (of the hit 1970’s comedy, Alice) and Megan Hilty (who starred in Smash with Hayes).

Things were never easy for this show. From day one there was an uphill ratings battle. However, after ordering 13 episodes, NBC did ink a deal for the freshman series to have 18. But, with an average of ‘1.4 rating with adults 18-49 in live-plus-7 returns’ they decided to stop production. In total, only 14 episodes have been filmed and 12 episodes have aired. It’s unclear whether or not NBC will air the final 2 episodes after the Winter Olympics.

Hayes, however, is not hurting financially. His production company – Hazy Mills production – still has ties with NBC. Both Grimm and Hollywood Game Night are doing very well. Both shows have a solid fan base and it does not look like either show is going anywhere (at least for a while).

The cancellation of Sean Saves the World is only the second in NBC’s 2013-14 season. After a few low-rated episodes, Welcome to the Family was pulled from the lineup. Considering how rocky things can be in the television world, the cancellation of only 2 shows is not too bad.

While 2 shows are gone, 2 more programs are coming into the midseason lineup. They are About a Boy and Growing up Fisher. Both will be comedies. Both will be on NBC. Both will use the Olympics as means to advertise.

So, will you miss this show? Were you one of the people who tuned in and watched the show? If so, what could’ve made it better – the inclusion of Megan Mulally? Please, share your thoughts below!
