Bad Robot films has released a trailer for the top-secret project 10 Cloverfield Lane, a "blood relative" to the popular 2008 film Cloverfield.

So it’s very rare that films can pull of any genuine surprises with the wonders of social media spoilers surfacing months in advance, but one film has done the impossible… and that is a sequel to the 2008 film Cloverfield. Yes, you read that right – there will be an upcoming sequel to the found footage monster flick by J.J. Abrams, and the major revelation is that there is already a trailer! The film comes as a major shock, previously known as a movie titled The Cellar to throw people off the beast’s trail, and it was clearly an effective approach that is fitting given the “top secret” elements of the original film.

Paramount Pictures told Collider about the concept, saying,  “The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.” The title mentioned is 10 Cloverfield Lane and stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. who are shown in the trailer to be locked in a bunker with tension amongst the three. The first Cloverfield film was one of the most iconic monster films ever made, along with the insanely creative marketing campaign that had me over analyzing hints of a sequel for years after the film’s release. (Clearly falling into the uber-geek category for the last eight years)

The first film left off with the possible destruction and bombing of New York City, so I’d assume that the state of the world will be left ambiguous for as long as possible – with more thriller aspects thrown in to add additional mystery to the Cloverfield world. The film has a release date of March 11th, 2016 which means we only have to wait two more months before we witness the “blood relative” of the infamous film. I realize this is improbable, but is anyone else hoping to somehow discover Rob survived the events of the first film? Check out the shocking new trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane below!
