Taylor Swift was filmed mouthing “shut the f**k up” to gal pal Selena Gomez last Sunday night in a dig that appeared to be directed at her ex, Harry Styles.
As Styles was onstage with his One Direction bandmates during the first half of the MTV VMAs, Taylor was seen leaning in to make the comment to Gomez, who had no verbal response.
Gomez was later asked by E! Online for a statement on the incident, but simply responded by saying, “Why don’t you ask Taylor? I’m going to stick up for my best friend. Don’t try that with me.”
The comment itself was caught live by one of MTV’s audience cams and since then Swift’s “oops” moment has swept the internet by storm, enraging many One Direction fans who feel she was acting disrespectfully towards Styles.
Some Taylor Swift fans have suggested on Twitter that she was simply making a jovial apology to Gomez for pushing her arm away.
Quick to change the topic of discussion back to music, Gomez stated that she had a “fun” time at the VMAs and happily “lost her mind” during the *NSYNC reunion. Who didn’t love that epic JT set?
“I also actually loved Lady Gaga’s performance. I thought it was very artsy, very cool. I was impressed, I loved it. I mean, obviously it’s her, though. She’s great.”
Whatever the story behind Taylor Swift’s comment, it can’t have been too big a deal for the pair! One Direction have since openly joked about the on-cam dig, and the ex-couple were photographed smiling together with mutual friends at one of the VMA after-parties.
