Seth Meyers has been making lots of preparations for when he starts to host NBC’s Late Night. The Saturday Night Live star will be taking over hosting duties for Jimmy Fallon on Late Night, just as soon as Fallon takes over hosting duties on The Tonight Show.
Meyers and his producer Mike Shoemaker talked with Entertainment Weekly about the transition to Late Night and the excitement they are feeling about building a writing staff. “One of the main things we’re doing now, which will be the most essential part of the success of the show, is staffing,” Meyers explained. “You’re trying to find people who you trust and like their comedic voices. That’s been a really fun part of this summer so far.”
Meyers went on to say: “I don’t think we’re gonna try to deconstruct the Late Night model. But, I feel like every time one of us succeeds, it’s because it’s built around the strengths of the host. So, we’re going to try to recognize my strengths.”
Shoemaker said: “Seth being delighted with other people is my favorite thing to watch. Watching Seth set someone up for a joke, and then have it appear is the most satisfying thing.” Shoemaker did mention that Seth Meyers will most likely be returning to Saturday Night Live through the fall. Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels said, “We haven’t worked it out yet.” Shoemaker added that, “But yeah, there’s no reason he can’t be on there for awhile.”
Meyers added, ” Nothing is worse in our lives than saying something before Lorne does. I want to point out, I understand it’s easier to get me on the phone.” Seth Meyers has been a cast member for Saturday Night Live since 2001.
