Seth Meyers is set to leave SNL on February 1st in order to prepare for his new show Late Night with Seth Meyers on the 24th February, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Meyers, who was speaking at the Televisions Critics Association Press Tour, said, “It’s heartbreaking, but I’m really happy I came back and did this first half of the year. There was talks when this came up-because I found out before my last show last year-and I knew I wanted to come back, and I’m really glad I did. The nice thing about SNL is that you’re busy that you don’t have much time to reminisce.”
He also spoke to The Wrap about leaving SNL and why he wanted to leave the series before he began on the Late Show, ”We feel pretty strongly that I’m two shows away from cutting ties. I mostly just think it’s too hard to try to do two of these things at the same time.” He added, ”The SNL schedule is insane and it’s probably a little insane that I’ve stayed as long as I have, but I love it so much, I really have tried to get every last bit out of it. It would have been depressing not to be here for these last three shows.”
On his replacement for the ‘Weekend Update’ Meyers former co-host, he said, “Cecily comes from that Chicago ensemble world and…she loves playing off of someone, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see her with someone else.”
It has also been revealed that Meyer’s first guest on his new show will be fellow SNL alum and Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler.
