In the Season 2 premiere, the Shadow World is in upheaval as Valentine and The Circle continue to grow stronger by the minute, while our Shadowhunter team quickly becomes disillusioned with The Clave and their reaction to the recent events. Loyalties will be tested, unlikely bonds will be made, and relationships will be pushed to the limit, as the Shadowhunters and their Downworlder friends make their way in a new world. We sat down with the Shadowhunters cast and creative team at New York Comic Con to talk (as much as we could) about what's in store for Season 2, which has been extended to 20 episodes on Freeform.
While Dominic Sherwood was very limited in what he could reveal about the upcoming season, he did tease that "it gets worse for Jace before it gets better... We find him back on the ship. He's with Valentine...who's going to try and take over the world in whatever way he thinks is most appropriate, with whichever weapons he thinks will work most efficiently." Sherwood also teased that Jace "has a lot to learn about himself before he can come back and be a valued member of the Shadowhunters. It reaches a really great, interesting peak in [Episode] 3."
Matthew Daddario was able to spill a bit more, though. At the start of the season, Alec's "primary concern is Jace," he said. "Initially, that's what's driving his problems...and luckily, Magnus is there to help." Because the series was extended to 20 episodes, Daddario confirmed that there's more time to dive into each character and focus on development and growth. "We have time to show that growth in a real way, in a meaningful way, that will allow people to connect with these characters."
