By now, it’s no surprise that character Mary Jane Watson has been cut from The Amazing Spider Man 2 film, but there are questions has to whether or not the character will be introduced in later films.
Actress Shaliene Woodley filmed scenes as a future love interest for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), but it was announced this week that none of those scenes will be in the final cut of the movie.
The director for the sequel said Woodley was cut from because he needed to “streamline the story” to focus on Peter and Gwen Stacy’s (Emma Stone) relationship.
Woodley commented on her removal saying “Of course I’m bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason.”
The Descendants star is still hopeful that she might have a future with the franchise, “Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.”
With Woodley’s commitments to the sci-fi movie Divergent, it remains unclear as to whether she will be able to return in the future at all, according to The Wrap.
