Fans of the hit British TV show Sherlock
can rejoice today! Why? We have an airdate, Sherlockians! And a photo!
Please excuse us as we go into meltdown.
The third season of the wildly popular miniseries is set to return to PBS on January 19th
. That puts it back to back, for the first time ever, with Downton Abbey.
So, for those of you who watch both shows, it's a double treat.
The BBC has yet to confirm an airdate but the Beeb has what's called “first window” rights which means that the network can air the show anywhere between now and the US airdate. But, some fans and the show's Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch, are trying to get it to show simultaneously in the US and Great Britain so that American fans won't be spoiled about how Sherlock survived the fall.
Either way, the last two seasons aired on the BBC three and four months apart from PBS. Seeing as it's only three months away from January now, we're likely to get a less significant gap so spoiler-phobes shouldn't worry too much.
ended production in August after a delay so that the stars Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman could star in Star Trek
, The Hobbit,
and other feature films, most of which are due out before January. “The first holdup was the boys, of course, and getting all of them together — not just Benedict and Martin but also [creators] Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss,” Masterpiece
executive producer Rebecca Eaton says. “They had to break up the production to accommodate all the movies they wanted to make.”
The first episode of the series is titled “The Empty Hearse” which sees Watson and Holmes reunite three years after the Fall. The second episode “The Sign of Three”, which airs January 26th
, sees Watson get (SPOILERS) married to what appears to be Mary Morstan (who is played by Freeman's own partner Amanda Abbington). The third episode is “The Last Vow” and it airs February 2nd
. There are no details on the third episode, so, we'll have to wait and see about that.
In the mean time, while folks across the pond and here in the US wait patiently for January (I see countdown clocks already in motion), we also have been treated to a new photo. It shows John and Sherlock in front of 221B Baker Street and there is no sign of the Johnstache. Feast your eyes. http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/10/23/sherlock-season-3-premiere-date-revealed/
