Yesterday, we shared that both the UK and US versions of X Factor came under fire for their cruel approach for acts to advance into the Judges’ Houses and Live Shows respectively. Now, The X Factor’s creator Simon Cowell is speaking out about the controversial four-and-six-chair challenges. "Look, it has provoked an extreme reaction in the UK," Cowell told Hitfix. “I’m not going to lie, but however you cut people, people complain. We felt with this, less people had to compete, which was fairer. But this is the way I guess competitions work: You've got to field your strongest contestant.” TV Guide reported that The X Factor’s latest twist came from the Holland edition of the international franchise. Each mentor (Cowell-Groups, Demi Lovato-Girls, Paulina Rubio-Boys and Kelly Rowland-Over 25s) will have to cut down their Top 10 to their Final Four acts that they will take to the final stage of the competition: the Live Shows. However, the twist is that there are only four spots and if the four spots are filled up, the judges must eliminate their act on the spot! In the 32-second preview, fans that had the chance to watch the Four-Chair Elimination Challenge were upset at some of judges’ decisions. “The audience felt, I think, empowered, involved, and when they didn’t get their own way, they went nuts.” Cowell added. Returning judge Lovato stated told Digital Spy that the filming increased the tension in the studio and that the judges’ anxiety levels were raised exponentially! “I think we were all having anxiety attacks.” said the “Skyscraper” singer. The X Factor USA’s Four-Chair Challenge begins tonight on FOX!
