It's been 16 years since people could inserted the CD and were able to immerse themselves into the world of The Sims.

After years of development of being able to create fictional people to live false lives in elaborate homes with characters who might share some similarities to how we truly look, the Sims 4 is providing players with a brand new option to express themselves in an all new way with gender customization.

After almost a year of effort and reworking hundreds different parts of the game's contents, the latest new update to The Sims 4 allows players to customize their characters without gender boundaries.

Not only can people choose clothes, hair styles, jewelry and other parts of the 700 different character  options without worry of it being inaccessible due to their chosen character's gender, players can even alter the physique, walking style and tone of voice for their characters.

According to lead game producer Lyndsay Pearson, the update was made after getting feedback from fans as well as consulting GLAAD to ensure the respectful nature of the changes.

"Our players are constantly engaged in a conversation with us about The Sims and they're always requesting more of everything," said Pearson. "Players have been asking why certain hairstyles, clothing, and other options were limited to one gender or the other ... We [also] saw it as an awesome chance to continue to nurture what's always been an inclusive environment for all our players."

The Sims was initially released in February 2000, after being developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. The game allowed players to enjoy the daily lives of their own created simulated character or characters. The game required some strategic thinking to ensure the survival and success of each created character, so that maybe even if you weren't the best in the sciences in real life, your Sim would be able to become the Astronaut you had always dreamed of becoming. People could create elaborate houses for their Sims to live in and even had some classic cheat codes that would help put some extra money in their bank if needed.
