Staff Writer @rain_varelaSir Elton John believes that Jesus Christ would have been a supporter of gay marriage. In an interview with Sky News on the same weekend as the London Pride Parade, the award-winning hit maker gave his thoughts on what the Christian figure would have thought on marriage equality. “If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together. And that is what the Church should be about,” Elton John said. He also gave praise to two leaders of major Christian churches for the progress that, he says, has been made in recent years. Sir Elton believes that the Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the worldwide Anglican church, Justin Welby, is doing a good job. He also referred to the leader of over a billion Catholics, Pope Francis, as a ‘wonderful’ man. In describing the Pope, he had this to say: "He's stripped it down to the bare bones and said it's all basically about love and inclusiveness." The rock legend also revealed his plans to meet with President Vladimir Putin when he visits Russia in November. On the Russian leader who heads a government which passed anti-gay laws, he had this to say. “It’s no good putting up a wall and saying I’m not talking to these people; the only way things get solved is by talking to people.” “There are so many people out there who are living a life of hell and I’m living a life of, you know, luxury and I have my human rights intact and I won’t forget,” Elton John said.
