Despite referring to all talent shows as “boring”, Sir Elton John will be performing on the British version of X Factor. Current judge Sharon Osbourne has convinced the “Rocket Man” singer to perform on the show later this series. His performance will only add to the roster of hit artists that have performed on the X Factor stage, including Britney Spears, Cheryl Cole, and One Direction, who placed third in the British series in 2010. In 2010, Sir Elton spoke about talent competition series to The Radio Times, saying, "I'm not a fan of talent shows. I probably wouldn't have lasted if I'd gone on one. It's become boring, arse-paralysingly brain-crippling." Simon Cowell, creator and producer of X Factor, spoke to Piers Morgan about Sir Elton’s criticizing words. "Well, look. This is somebody who charges what - a million dollars a private gig? Two million dollars, you know? I don't know whether he's concerned about himself... But... they always bleat on that we're not giving other people a chance. And I always want to say to them, 'I tell you what, you just made a million dollars off - off your last private gig. Go and give it to a bunch of young musicians you care about, put them in the studio. Go and nurture them. Go and spend some time looking after them.' Then I'll buy your argument," In a specific attack, he also criticized The Voice, both the American and the UK versions, saying that the hit show focused more on the mentors and not enough on the contestants. When speaking about the UK series, Sir Elton accused the series of producing “nonentities”. Perhaps Sir Elton John has had a change of heart? Rumors are also circulating that Sir Elton will be mentoring the contestants, but let’s not jump too ahead of ourselves. Let’s just be glad we’re getting a performance of his on one of these “boring” shows!
