Sarah Michelle Gellar Joins ‘Cruel Intentions’ Series

Sarah Michelle Gellar officially joins the cast of the upcoming NBC series Cruel Intentions, a sequel to the 1999 cult classic film.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is officially returning to Cruel Intentions!

It was recently reported that SMG was approached to reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil for the sequel series to the cult classic 1999 film, and the actress took to Instagram this week to confirm her involvement. Gellar quoted the diabolical socialite she portrayed by writing, “That’s right, ‘everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way’ #kathrynmerteuil is back!!!” She will join Taylor John Smith, who plays Bash Casey the son of Annette Hargrove and Sebastian Valmont – while Kathryn will be attempting to use her manipulative ways for her own benefit. Having Gellar back on TV and returning to one of her most iconic roles will make the NBC sequel of Cruel Intentions one of the most anticipated series of the year!

Production of the Cruel Intentions will begin February 25th, with a rumored air date aiming for October of this year. Set in present time, Kathryn lives in San Francisco, now married to a wealthy man,  involves herself in a youth-based rehab, and has a hand in an exclusive private school. After Bash arrives into Kathryn’s life, she is reminded of her dark past and returns to her true (and completely entertaining) form. Having the creative masterminds back on board in addition to Gellar’s role reprisal, I am growing more excited to see what they have in mind for these characters 17 years later! Check out the photo confirmation below, and let us know what you are most excited for in a Cruel Intentions sequel series
