According to IGN, if you take a look at the PS4 Camera’s list of features and descriptions on Amazon, you’ll notice that it mentions voice commands. This would suggest that the device will likely include voice recognition software, like the Kinect 2.0. Unfortunately, the camera is not included with the PS4 – in order to beat the Xbox One’s price, which comes bundled with a Kinect, the PS4 camera was removed. And that may present problems in the future, cheaper price or not.
When a customer decides they want to play a motion controlled PS4 game, they are going to have to buy the separately sold camera to play those games. With the Xbox One, that’s not the case, since you’ll always have the Kinect as it comes included in the bundle. That being said, the PS4 will likely beat the Xbox One in the short term (take a look at IGN’s article on that here), but in the long run, when the next-gen console craze dies down, well, we’ll see. Either way, it was a bold move for Sony.
So it seems the motion controller craze is still going strong. Sony’s PS4 camera and Xbox One’s Kinect 2.0 are always fighting neck and neck these days. To be honest I’m finding it less of a dilemma to choose between the consoles now that both companies’ respective devices just seem so darn similar. But I never was much of a Kinect/PlayStation Eye fan anyways.
