No other great house in Game of Thrones is as beloved as the Starks. While the other major families would boast one bad apple or two, the great northern family seems to only produce members that we all root for. But that may change for the upcoming Season 7, at least according to Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark, the eldest daughter.
"This season, it's really interesting," she told Elle magazine. "I think she might be a little more unlikable, because she finally has this power, and she doesn't really know what to do with it, and she really falters. It's really interesting to see her like that, because the past few seasons, she's been so strong."
A darker turn for Sansa Stark
Sophie Turner has previously hinted at a much darker turn for her character, and has spoken of an upcoming power struggle with her half-brother (or cousin) Jon Snow. But sibling rivalry is not exactly something to worry about in this family, since we have seen it play out in the first season, between Sansa and Arya, or Arya and Bran.
But the use of the word 'unlikable' may allude to something more terrible. Game of Thrones is a world filled with morally ambiguous characters. Fans are used to them, and it takes a lot for us to actually dislike someone within this world of Joffreys and Ramsays.
Kit Harington who plays Jon Snow also addressed this sibling rivalry. "There is definite tension between them right from the first scene. There are the same problems — she questions his decisions and command; he doesn't listen to her," Harrington shared. "But as far as where that goes or takes them or how dark it can get, we'll see. It gets past sibling squabbling, it gets into two people power struggling."
Jon Snow and Sansa are the first Stark siblings to reunite. To actually see that deteriorate into political power play is just sad, but it does make the upcoming season more interesting.
Does Sansa Stark desire the throne?
One thing we are sure of is that Sansa has no desire of becoming a ruling Queen "She's kept a clear head in spite of all the crap she's been through. But I don't think she has any desire for the throne," Sophie Turner said.
I guess she probably just wants to be a power-behind-the-throne, which knowing what happened to previous rulers seems to be wiser option. Can't Jon give her that?
We'll just have to wait and see. Game of Thrones Season 7 premiered on HBO on July 16.
