Japanese drama, Like Father, Like Son, is set for an English language remake, says Variety. The film, which is described as a “child swap drama,” has been licensed for a remake by Dreamworks SKG. The film was in competition at this years Cannes Film Festival. Steven Spielberg was president of the Festival’s Jury Committee and was “impressed” with the film. In a statement released by Fuji Television, Spielberg said that he was “so impressed by its power to bring such a human story to the screen” and that it was “a story we wanted to remake to bring to our audiences throughout the world.” Talks began in August between Dreamworks SKG and Fuji to acquire the English language rights, and the deal was confirmed by Fuji over the weekend, corresponding with its Japanese cinema release. The film’s director, Kore-eda Hirokazu, has said that he is honoured to have his film remade and is looking forward to working with Spielberg. At time of press it was not confirmed whether Spielberg will direct. The film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes and won the Jury Prize, as well as well as a commendation from the Ecumenical Jury. The film also screened recently at the Toronto International Film Festival. http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
